about

'foundations' is the examination of a relationship on the brink, trying to understand the key flaws that led to its breakdown, and making one final plea. "This song comes from a place of confusion, anger and frustration. I'd been listening to a lot of Everything Everything, Pvris and Anna Meredith and while the results sound a lot more pop than some of those influences, the aggression and fusion of traditional 'rock' and electronic instruments was something I was keen to explore myself." Despite being a fundamentally angry song, the combination of 808 drums, big guitar riffs and a danceable beat keep it a fun song to let your hair down.

lyrics

There's a mess tangled up in you
The one that he left behind
It takes his form and others too
The job to unravel you is mine

It's become part of you
I wish that it weren't true
It's made you who you are
I love you, but from afar

Open yourself up to me
Please don't go running away
They can't help, they don't know you
I am yours, take what you need

There's a hole left inside of me
The one that they left behind
It takes their form and others too
To fill the void is your design

It's become part of me
Didn't know, but you see
It's made me who I am
I am not worth a damn

Open yourself up to me
Please don't go running away
They can't help, they don't know you
I am yours, take what you need

You're all I need,
I thought the same was true for you
Maybe I was wrong.
We're in this together
It's too late to change that now

Open yourself up to me
Please don't go running away
They can't help, they don't know you
I am yours, take what you need
Open up, let me in
Don't go running away
We're in too deep
If you leave then don't come back
